If you dare cross this threshold, be aware that indescribable horrors with unutterable names await in the stygian darkness, furtive creatures from beyond all the known stars. Expect only madness and despair ahead… in Disney style!

What can I say, people? I’m exhausted. This has been a 40+ hours labour divided among the sleeping time of the past week and a half. And it feels good to show it to the world. We can easily say that this is what my mind looks like. It is, after all, built up from all my major obsessions in life.

1. Giant Octopuses/Pulpos gigantes
2. Victorian fashion/Moda victoriana
3. Steel greenhouses from the XVIII and XIX century/Invernaderos de acero del S.XVIII y XIX
4. Jumanji
5. German expressionism/Expresionismo alemán
6. Piranesi’s engravings/Los grabados de Piranesi
7. H.P. Lovecraft
8. The heart of Darkness/El corazón de las tinieblas

The attack of the accursed octopus of doom and madness

Enjoy & share! ¡Disfrutad y compartid!

The other night santiagu caught me off guard when he sent me some file named “fanart” through dropbox and told me “Maybe that will ring a bell”. When I opened it this is what I saw:

La otra noche santiagu me pilló desprevenida enviándome vía dropbox un .jpg llamado “fanart”, “A ver si te suena” me dijo. Cuando lo abrí me encontré con esto:

His awesome version of the two characters involved in Wallflower! He says it’s not finished but I just couldn’t wait any longer. It’s a lovely personification of the girls and he managed somehow to nail it with the colours even though the comic is B/W. Go give the boy himself some love in his blog now!

About the bilingual blog rant, I’ve been resisting this for almost three years cause I dislike having posts written in two languages all the time. I think it causes a bit of confusion and the tags part is real trouble but ever since wordpress started showing visit rates per country and I realised at least 33% of my traffic comes from spanish speaking countries I have decided that having a bilingual blog is less time consuming, less confusing and a better option than anything else at least until I can figure out how to get a language change button option or think of something else. Until then, a bilingual blog shall this one be.

I think this is the most I’ve ever written in this blog. Ever. xD // Creo que este post tiene el récord de número de palabras del blog con diferencia. xD

This week I got my belated birthday present from my family, a Wacom Intuos5 tablet. I’ve always had mixed feelings about graphic tablets as I have never found them confortable to draw on. I used to own a Graphire4 and even if it was great for digital painting I never got the hang of it for drawing. But the Intuos5 works fantastic and I’m determined to get over past experiences and get the hang of drawing in the graphic tablet. I thought it would take really long and the process would be very frustrating at the beginning but yesterday I did a fast doodle just to try it out and the result wasn’t that different from what I can do on paper so it seems it’s going to be lighter and faster than I had thought. 🙂

The other day my friend Santi directed me to this great tool for drawing training. It’s ridiculously easy to use and great for a constant focused practice at home when your means don’t allow you to have a proper model in front of you. And it is for free.

Enjoy it! 🙂

Two months ago I posted in here the pencil version of this illustration, featuring a three vanishing points view of a staircase which I’m still kind of proud of. With my thesis due (hopefully) in July, I don’t have much time for my dream lately, but I try to invest as much of my free time as possible into carrying on with it. I made several tryouts, with watercolours and painting digitally, but I finally decided to borrow my roommate‘s copic markers. I must thank her for that and for the input in the final stages.

Here there is my first finished illustration in a while. Enjoy! 🙂

Some practice. I love the aesthetics of the Japanese drums playing.

Browsing through the most recent sketchbooks I sense a pattern: Victorian Ladies is my don’t-know-what-to-draw topic.

As promised, I kept on working on that 3 vanishing points perspective of a Victorian staircase. And I’m basically done with the pencils, and I’m kind of satisfied.

I, btw, started this one week ago so I could paint something. One week later, the painting can finally start!

Self-explanatory tittle there. For the ones not knowing what lacasitos are, follow this link.

And, Happy 2012 to everybody! Thanks for being there, reading. Let’s go for another year! I must say I feel very excited about 2012, lots of expectations and plans and projects!

Love,

Penelope García, BAU unit’s data analyst in Criminal Minds. Photoreference used, at least down to hips level, to try get close to Kirsten Vangsness’. Fail again 🙂

I’ve decided that I’ll make my 50 people fanarts. Photoreferences for all kind of complexions, races and ages are easier to find in shows and movies 🙂

You can find all the 50×5 project entries in the 50×5 category.
